How does an electromagnet brake system work?

Electromagnet braking systems operate using magnetic force to apply braking torque. They consist a.o. of an electromagnet and an armature disk. When electric current flows through the electromagnet, it generates a magnetic field. This attracts the armature disk towards the electromagnet, creating friction that slows the rotation of the shaft and applies the brake.

The major advantage of electromagnetic disk brakes is that they can be engaged and released electronically through a simple on/off switch. This allows for highly controlled starts and stops. Additionally, the braking force can be easily adjusted by varying the electric current.
